The Actress Says Discussing Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart
The star has revealed that she no longer feels suitable to comment publicly against the Trump government, fearing it could exacerbate unhelpful debate and further divisions across the nation.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Says Lawrence
In a recent interview, Lawrence reflected, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I thought I was running around without clear direction. But it’s become clear, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars do not make a difference in any way on voter decisions.”
The actor went on, “Why continue? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to heighten conflict tearing the nation apart.”
Changing Allegiances
The actress has admitted freely about supporting right and leftwing contenders throughout her life. Brought up by a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she voted for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election prior to switching to the Democrats and explaining she recognized during the Obama era that backing conservatives was voting against her individual liberties as a female citizen.
Past Statements
Several years ago, she commented that Donald Trump’s election could represent “the end of the world” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she voiced her backing to the Democratic nominee, “because I believe she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will make every effort to defend reproductive rights.”
Industry Position
Jennifer Lawrence was joined by many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to the former president as a returning figure, but the minimal impact celebrities have over the public choices was highlighted by the outcome.
“The second term appears changed,” said Lawrence of his leadership. “Since he stated his intentions. We were aware of his actions for his first term. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”
New Release
The actor is highlighting the drama, Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she stars as a recent parent who faces challenges with her emotional state in the countryside. At a media event for the film in Venice, the star addressed the situation in the Middle East: “It’s frightening. It’s devastating. What’s occurring is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s horrible.”
Additional Thoughts
The actress elaborated by expressing that she was saddened by “the disrespect in the conversations of the political landscape currently and how that is going to be normalised to the children today. It’s going to be normal to them that leaders are untruthful.”
The actor attempted to refocus outrage about the situation to decision-makers rather than actors and artists. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she advised, in what many took to be a nod to the declaration supported by thousands of arts community members to boycott Israeli film institutions.
Personal Connections
Lawrence, who received an Academy Award aged 22 for her performance in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her performance in the new film. While Ramsay has denied the plot being understood as one of maternal mental health issues and mental illness, she shared that she did relate to aspects of her film narrative after the arrival of her youngest child, not long after production wrapped.
“I felt anxiety for my son,” she commented, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I got on a treatment called that medicine and I used it for 14 days and it made a difference.”
Film Challenges
Jennifer Lawrence also discussed of the empowering aspect of completing nude scenes in the film while she was some months pregnant and couldn’t work out.
“It’s refreshing,” she commented, of being forced to cast off vanity. “Truly, I sometimes think where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
