"Our thoughts are with him and support for him as he goes through this."

The Trail Blazers additionally secured their initial match since the detentions, with Brazilian Splitter stepping in as temporary head coach in Billups' non-attendance and leading the squad to a decisive 139 to 119 win against the Warriors.

"We all had positive times with Billups and his coaching style," Splitter remarked. "Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones but we have a job to do."

League Commissioner Silver 'Disturbed' over Arrests

Speaking about the arrests for the first time, league head Silver said he was "deeply disturbed" by the incidents of the recent days.

"There's nothing more important to the NBA and its fans than the integrity of the competition," he told a broadcaster. "And so I felt uneasy. It was disturbing."

Silver further said an NBA investigation into the player's actions in spring 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a game he participated for the Charlotte Hornets versus the New Orleans Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"We were informed by the regulators and the betting companies," he added.

"We then looked into that situation and were open about it. Although there was that aberrational betting, we, frankly, couldn't find anything.

"The federal government has legal authority... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can do all kinds of things that the NBA is unable to.

"So, we've been working with them since then. Naturally, what they revealed recently was an charge.

"And 30 months after, he has not been found guilty of anything, in justice to Terry.

"Clearly, it doesn't look good, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a balance in this case between protecting people's rights and conducting an inquiry."
