Aaron Rai Clinches Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in Thrilling Play-Off Showdown Versus Tommy Fleetwood

The 30-year-old golfer displayed exceptional nerve to claim the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on Sunday, defeating his compatriot in a dramatic playoff following a rollercoaster final round of play.

The Englishman nailed a crucial birdie putt from just over eight foot to seal the win, echoing his only previous tournament success at the 2020 Scottish Open, which was also a playoff victory over Fleetwood.

Sunday's Play Excitement

The champion started the final round with a one-shot lead over fellow Englishman Fleetwood and Danish golfer Højgaard. He ended up with a overall score of twenty-under after a up-and-down, 67 closing round that included seven birdie putts and a pair of bogeys.

The challenger moved one shot clear with the 16th and 17th remaining after a birdie on the 16th, but his rival pulled level again on the seventeenth and then missed a 10-foot birdie putt to win outright on the last hole.
